'Avatar' director James Cameron criticizes 'superhero films'
(Web Desk) - James Cameron is backing the success of his new film Avatar. The Oscar winner’s feud with superhero films, on the other hand, is far from over.
During an interview with TheWrap, the Oscar winner attributed the success of his film to its relatability, as opposed to superhero films, where the problems do not include “going up against some guy that’s trying to conquer the galaxy.”
“They have genuine issues. And I’m not knocking superhero films “Cameron continued.
The Titanic director, however, quickly added, “I adore them; they are our modern myths and legends, the Greek gods at war. We love it all, but that’s not the movie I wanted to make.”
Previously, Cameron seemed to criticise superhero movies, telling The New York Times that he wanted to “do the thing that other people aren’t doing” in their films before referring to DC and Marvel Cinematic Universe films.
“When I look at these big, spectacular films - I’m looking at you, Marvel, and DC - the characters all act like they’re in college, no matter how old they are,” he said.
Cameron added “They have relationships, but they really don’t. They never hang up their spurs because of their kids. The things that really ground us and give us power, love, and a purpose? Those characters don’t experience it, and I think that’s not the way to make movies.”
